Who are Caran d'Ache?

The company itself has been around for just over 100 years but still continues to create innovative new products.

Established in 1915, in Geneva, Caran d'Ache is committed to developing writing and drawing instruments using only the finest materials and techniques. 

The names itself comes from a mixture of langauges and cultural influences. Originally from the Russian word 'Karandash' which means 'Pencil' this word was then mixed with the Turkish root 'kara tash' which refers to blackstone. Nine years after setting up the first Swiss pencil factory using the natural Blackstone material found in the Swiss Mountains Arnold Schweitzer took the name of the famous illustrator Caran d'Ache, whose name encompassed creativity, natural materials and their original product, pencils.

Today the brand has still kept this name that references artistry, culture and, of course, high quality pencils!

This year we have two favourite products...

1. Caran d'Ache Classic Metal Ballpoint Pen

This Ballpoint is not only practical with its compact and retractable design that makes writing anywhere easy, it is also colourful with its bright yellow body. In keeping with the 849 sports design the classic Caran d'Ache sculpted ballpoint pen has a handy pocket clip and the beautiful logo engraved on its polished button. We love this design as it's bright, fun and writes like a dream!

2. Genius Touch Grey Pen

If you're looking for something a little more understated then you have to consider Caran d'Ache's Genius collection. 

Our favourite is the Genius Ballpoint Pen in Grey which has all the same features as a classic ballpoint pen but also has a stylus tip for touch screens. Its hexagonal body makes it efficient and ergonomic, the ideal pen for the busy working designer and professional.

Since the 20th century Caran d'Ache was the only manufacturer of writing and drawing instruments on Swiss soil. Nowadays Caran d'Ache still maintains their unique design and quality craftsmanship that made them famous years before. 

Since the establishment of their factory in 1915, specifically for pencils, Caran d'Ache has expanded into creating and developing some of the most beautiful products including; high quality artistry pencils, elegant ballpoints pens and even fountain pens.
